MORRISTOWN, NJ – Today Martin Hewitt, Republican Candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District, released the following statement on the significance of Veterans Day:

Today, Veterans Day, is a day we remember all the people who fought and the many who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country. Veterans are white, black, hispanic, gay, lesbian, transgender, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and many other religions and ethnic groups. They have given so much to make the United States the great country it has always been and will continue to be.

While veterans have done so much for all of us, we as a country need to do more for them and their families.

We need to provide comprehensive healthcare, for both their physical and mental injuries and illnesses.
We need to ensure that they have job training and employment opportunities.
We need to make sure that their families are also provided for.
We need to provide them these basic services not as charity or a handout, but in appreciation for all that they and their families have provided us and because it is our moral obligation to do so.
So on this Veterans Day, say thanks to those still in uniform or those who have fought so bravely in the past. Thank them for taking on challenges that the majority of us will never need to face because of their service.
I am forever grateful to my father, Philip Cooper Hewitt, United States Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force, 454th Bomb Group. Dad, I salute you as well as all of those who fought with you. Yours was truly the greatest generation.

Hewitt is challenging twelve term incumbent Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen in the June 2018 Republican Primary for Congress. Hewitt believes in supporting veterans by providing them with the medical and mental health care that they and their families need. Hewitt describes himself as “socially liberal, fiscally conservative.” More information about Hewitt and the 11th Congressional District can be found at
